Assumptions & sources
- Doses. Green Fuel Marine: maintenance 1:10,000, initial treatment 1:5,000. Green Fuel Pure: maintenance 1:5,000, initial treatment 1:2,500. Annual additive need is calculated at the maintenance dose; tick "Include initial treatment" to dose the first 10 operating days at the initial (double) dose.
- Fuel prices (defaults, editable). Marine: Ship & Bunker Global 20 Ports average, 23 Oct 2026: VLSFO USD 929.50/t, HSFO (IFO380) USD 831/t, MGO USD 1,565/t. Land: world average retail diesel about USD 1.63/L (GlobalPetrolPrices.com, 19 Oct 2026). Bunker prices were elevated in October 2026; use your own contract prices.
- Densities for converting tonnes to litres: HSFO 0.98, VLSFO 0.94, MGO 0.85 kg/L; diesel 0.84 kg/L.
- CO₂ factors. IMO carbon factors (Cf, MEPC.364(79) guidelines): HFO 3.114 t CO₂/t fuel, LFO/VLSFO 3.151, MGO/MDO 3.206. Road diesel about 2.68 kg CO₂ per litre (typical tank-to-wheel factor). CO₂ avoided = fuel saved × factor.
- Break-even saving = additive cost ÷ fuel cost. If your saving is above it, the treatment pays for itself.
- Presets are typical example values only, not data from any specific vessel or vehicle.
This calculator is an estimate for planning only. Actual savings depend on fuel quality and price, engine type and condition, dose and operating profile, and are not guaranteed. A measured trial against your own baseline is the best way to confirm results.
